Following Donald McCaig's invaluable tips "First time at the Post", Big Yellow Boots Stockdog Training will be
holding a series of mini clinics this summer, that puts this written guide to work.
This series is designed to give Novice and (new ProNovice) handlers an opportunity to run their dogs in a trial like
atmosphere to develop their handling skills.
Handlers will gain experience on how to handle their dog in various situations that may occur on the trial field
during their run and learn how to recover when things go wrong.
As mentioned, we will be using Donald McCaigs's "First Time at the Post" as our basic outline for the day.
Handlers can preview this article at http://www.bordercollie.org/ftatp.html and it is recommended handlers
attending this series read this article prior to coming out.
The day will start with handlers each running their dogs through a judged Novice/ProNovice course. Each run will
be video-taped so that handlers can review their run and go through each phase of work completed. We will then
spend a 1/2 hour with each handler and dog working on any specific handling problems that occurred during their
run.
In the afternoon, handlers will have the chance to put their new skills to use by running a second judged Novice
course.
Limited to 10 handler/dog teams.
Cost: $50.00 (which includes 2 runs of Novice and lunch)
Series dates are as follows with a start time of 8:00 a.m each day:
June 22

August 10
